Hartley founded Peavey Electronics Corporation in 1965 in the basement
of his parents' home. Today, at age 60, he is CEO (as well as sole owner)
of the company which employs over 2000 people in 33 manufacturing facilities
around the world. International operations include a manufacturing and
distribution facility in Corby, England and a distribution facility in
Canada. Exporting to 134 countries, the product line consists of approximately
2000 products, including public address systems, loudspeakers, power amplifiers,
keyboard and MIDI, solid-body electric guitars, acoustic guitars, microphones,
drums and other related commercial sound equipment.
He is a well-known industry spokesperson and has given numerous lectures
before various trade organizations, dealer functions, civic and social
groups. He is a recognized authority in the music and audio field as well
as in matters of marketing and international trade, including such diverse
areas as foreign and domestic patents and trademarks.
Hartley received his B. S. Degree from Mississippi State University
in 1965.
